1. Isn't it weird that ... Democrats, who were proud to point out the gender gap, minority gap, and gay gap in their favor this election season (for example, 71 percent of Hispanics went for Obama as did 73 percent of Asians), they are now poised in King County to re-elect a sixtysomething straight white guy over a young Filipino man for party chair?
Current Chair Steve Zemke, likely to be re-elected this Saturday, is being challenged by 11th Distict Democratic Party vice chair and treasurer Marvin Rosete.
Check it out: The current King County GOP chair is a woman (Lori Sotelo), as is the group's executive director Lisa Shin, who is also Asian.
Isn't it weird that the loudest critics of height increases in South Lake Union happen to live in the tallest building in South Lake Union?
2. Isn't it weird that ... the loudest critics of height increases in South Lake Union (the people who have hired a lobbyist, anyway). happen to live in the tallest building in South Lake Union, the Mirabella retirement community?
3. Isn't it weird that ... low-income advocate Tim Harris (the head of Real Change) officially dumped Mayor Mike McGinn as his candidate of choice late last week, saying he's all in for Peter Steinbrueck instead.
Nothing against Steinbrueck (who looks to be leaning toward a run and who has a solid track record of fighting for the homeless during his time on council), but Harris has made a show of partnering with McGinn throughout his first term.
The pair made a show of political force against City Council member Tim Burgess' dicey panhandling ordinance, culminating with McGinn's veto. And McGinn spoke out against the plan to end Metro's downtown Seattle ride-free zone—another one of Harris' major causes.
But evidently Harris is fickle. As recently as early last week, Harris said publicly that he liked McGinn's downtown safety proposal. (We gave McGinn a Jolt winner that day thanks to Harris' support.)
When we asked Harris today why he was abandoning McGinn, he said it wouldn't do anyone any good "to go there," though he did tell the Seattle Times that he didn't think McGinn could beat Burgess because he doesn't see much support for McGinn out there.
Meanwhile, there's a FaceBook page urging Harris himself to run.
